March 2020: Yellowstone in Winter

The North Branch Nature Center, Montpelier, VT, offered a guided trip to “Winter in Yellowstone.” Having taken an intensive Geology weekend with NBNC faculty member Stephen Wright, I was familiar enough with NBNC to believe this would be worthwhile. Bingo! And we were lucky with both weather (a couple of brief snow flurries, no rain, T 20s to 40s) and travel window (just before the COVID19 shutdowns). Guide/Naturalist Sean Beckett and a person we never met, Jamieson Fisher, organized equipment and logistics beautifully. We had a congenial group and a good time. I experimented with using just an iPhone 11 and a lightweight Canon Point-and-Shoot instead of my trusty Nikon DSLR and its now outmoded 18-200 lens (5# total). I was gloomy at first about the results, but some mild editing resulted in a few keepers. I think. You decide.
